ABOUT

Mission

Enabling engineering professionals to create better software and unlock their true leadership potential through first-class training and coaching.

Team

We're just two testing nerds that met and fell in love at a company with a unique, people-first culture.  As a part of that culture, we had a focus on delivering high quality software using a combination of creative, practical, and scientific methods.  After leading and training hundreds of testers, developers, performance engineers, business analysts, UX designers, and engineering leaders across product development and information services  organizations, we knew it was time to bring that type of training and professional development to individuals and teams across the globe. For many years, Tariq has been active in the software quality and testing communities, both in research and in practice. With this venture, we're taking engineering community building to the next level by helping organizations to invest their most valuable resource, their people.

Training Philosophy

Based on his professional experience teaching software engineering and testing courses in  industry and academia, Chief Training Officer, Tariq King, trains with four tenets in mind.  He has coined these the BARE tenets for effective training, and incorporates them into every course and training session.

  • Balancing ContentCourses should have an appropriate combination of conceptual knowledge and practical skills training in the form of hands-on and/or collaborative activities. Our content addresses different types of learners including auditory, visual, and even tactile where possible.

  • Assessing Knowledge and Skills. As a course progresses, there should be regular checkpoints where the knowledge and skills being taught are tested.  Whether you call them tests, quizzes, probing questions, or practice exercises, checking the learners ability to recall and apply knowledge must be an integral part of the course curriculum.

  • Reinforcing or Rewriting Learning. It is known that repetition is an important aid to learning because it helps to transition knowledge and skills from conscious to subconscious.  This makes it critical to reinforce learning when the individual or group is on the correct track, or rewrite any incorrect learning due to gaps or misunderstandings.

  • Engaging the Participants.  Learning is most enjoyable when people are engaged. Our goal is to connect with course participants, ask them questions, encourage them to present and share their work, and relate content to the real world.  We read the room regularly to make sure no one is drifting out of or away from the learning experience.
